Live Drawing // 10 Minute Portraits

I love drawing portraits! And I LOVE drawing LIVE portraits! I paint them with gouache and watercolours in 10-15 minutes, while people are posing for me ;)

They tell me stories about their life and I always feel like we make such a special connection in these 10 minutes (fleeting connections on a deep and personal level are so magical and specia).

Last time I was painting portraits at CraftyFox Market this September in Brixton, Spidergirl herself sat for a portrait! How amazing is it?! :)

You can find me painting portraits 9th and 10th of December at Peckham with CraftyFox Market and 16th at Mercato Metropolitano with CraftyFox Market. And all other upcoming events can be found at my Events page.

Watercolour & Ink Portrai

I've been drawing live portraits at events for over a year now and it took me some time to figure out which materials work best and produce the most striking results in 10-15 minutes, dry super fast, are small and portable.

Here are my tools for live drawing:

Fabriano Hot Pressed Paper or Cass Art Watercolour Paper

Palomino Pencil

Kuretake Brush Pen or Pentel Brush Pen (both fabulous brush pens)

Carbon Ink (fill in the old cartridges)

carbon ink cartridges (they will fit any brush pen, it did all of mine

Kuretake Watercolours (set of 36)

Fine Tec Metallic Watercolours

Schminke Burnt Sienna

Raphael Brush

Kuretake Water Brush Pen

And this is how it all looks in action! :)

Live Drawing

This weekend I was drawing lots of lovely faces at Crafty Fox Market in Brixton, Dogstar. Crafty Fox occupied three floors filled with cake, DJ, workshops, handmade goods (sooo many beautiful things!) and life portraits by me! :)

To keep things fun and my models entertained I was drawing portraits in 10 minutes, it was a tough challenge to stay focused as all my customers were so sweet and chatty and such a pleasure to talk to. I even met one lovely lady from Portugal, pair of super cute girls from China and the most adorable sisters from Edinburgh who stopped by especially to get their portraits done. It's such a pleasure to meet & connect with people while drawing them.

Thank you Lisa for the photos of me in action. :) More photos of the event can be found here

Huge thank you to Crafty Fox Market for having me :)

I love drawing portraits and people are always mesmerized to see how their portraits come to life with some ink and watercolour paint. If you are planning an event (wedding, hen do, retail or corporate event) and are interested in a live illustration, please drop me a line and we can talk about it!
